Dear Editor,
I have just returned from getting my vehicle registration renewed at the new County Treasurer’s office. As a result of this experience, two sayings come to mind: “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” and “An elephant is a mouse built to government specifications.” The new office functions like the Social Security’s office: Wait until you are called, then go to the assigned desk and have a seat. When people go to the Social Security office it is to discuss, in detail, a particular issue. Chairs are helpful. For vehicle issues, it is a case of in, done and out. Chairs are not handy. In fact, they are a hindrance.
So, my advice is, if in need of a renewal, pack a lunch. If in need of other vehicle business, bring a book like “War and Pease” to read; and I don’t mean the abridged version.
Whoever planned this new setup was standing on the wrong side of the counter!
