The nonprofit community club, Community Project Connection (CPC) based in Worden, MT, has set tentative dates for a monthly summer concert series in Worden. Aiming to bring live music and food trucks to main street Worden, CPC set tentative dates and formed a committee to begin planning the events with the hope of broadening summer activities and community gathering spaces for those in the Huntley Project area. Tentatively set to take place on the third Thursday of the month, May through August, the events would take place from 5pm-9pm. CPC President Nikki Zimmer stated, “Our group (CPC) is excited to find new ways to bring our community together and because of this, we will be hosting a summer series on the third Thursday of the month in the summer. These events will include a food truck and live music for all to enjoy. The first of the series will be May 21st to kick off the summer. Stay tuned for more details!”
CPC also decided to move forward with producing a small magazine publication to provide information to Huntley Project communities on the group and its projects, events, and finances. Community stories and events, area history, other nonprofit organizations, and businesses are also planned to be featured in the 8–12-page magazine. Priced at around $2 per publication, including mailing to 1800 mailboxes in the community, CPC voted to begin production on one issue to gauge community reception. “CPC is excited to release a community magazine. We are starting with a single free issue. The hope is to have good feedback and be able to release more in the future. We have a few goals with this first issue. Introduce ourselves as a group, we want the community to know who we are, how we raise and distribute funds, and what our future looks like. We also want to shed light on other nonprofits in the area, highlight local events and have some connective articles about our rural communities. We hope it’s something our community can look forward to and even become a part of,” stated CPC Secretary Mikey Mollman.
Other business discussed at the regular monthly meeting included:
- Discussion surrounding a proposed ice-skating rink for the town of Worden. CPC members had reached out to the City of Bridger to gain insight on the feasibility of the project as Bridger has had ice-skating rink for multiple years. Bridger representative stated to CPC that the rink cost around $7,000 a year for repairs and insurance. Additionally, representatives stated that the rink required a designated person to maintain the rink by occasionally resurfacing and cleaning leaves off the rink. Bridger recommended finding a space to flood and running a shorter event involving ice skating. CPC decided to table the topic for next meeting.
- Zimmer stated that she had contacted Huntley Project Schools about resurfacing the old tennis courts into pickleball courts. Zimmer stated that the school was on board with the project. Zimmer stated that the court would need to be resurfaced, lighting would need to be installed, and fencing may need to be replaced around the court. Gathering estimates on cost, Zimmer has scheduled a meeting with the company that constructed Meadowlark Brewing’s pickleball courts.
- The group discussed the possibility of mosquito control for the Worden community, with members volunteering to research the topic for next meeting.
CPC will hold their next regular monthly meeting and annual officer elections at Project Dance in Worden, MT, on March 23, at 6:30pm.
